A cafe located near Thomas Carr College in Tarneit has extended a helping hand to the school during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The @7Grams café, located at Wyndham Village Shopping Centre, last month offered to donate more than 40 bottles of hand sanitiser to the college.

Cafe team-member Linda said she knew that pupils and teachers would face challenges during the pandemic.

Linda said she told the college principal, Craig Holmes, that the coffee shop wanted to “extend a helping hand to the school by donating hand sanitiser to each classroom to assist with COVID-19.”

Mr Holmes said that when the cafe’s donation offer came through, the school was running low on hand sanitiser.

“We had ordered through several suppliers but they couldn’t supply these immediately, they were all minimum eight week lead time,” he said.

Mr Holmes said he was thrilled when Linda contacted him.

“The college was very surprised and thankful that during such times of uncertainty a local business would go out of their way to make this donation,” Mr Holmes said.

“Both staff and students have been utilising the hand sanitiser on a regular basis.”

Mr Holmes said the school would also be establishing a Thomas Carr College Business Register, which will provide a list of family businesses the community can support during the pandemic.

“Thomas Carr College sees this as an opportunity to connect and bring together the community to support each other,” he said.

“The college is looking to partner with and promote businesses that are aligned with our vision and mission.”
