Council gets behind Australian Made

Buy Australian and boost the economy in your own backyard.

That’s the message from Wyndham council as it joins forces with the Australian Made campaign to garner support for local manufacturing.

Councillor and economic development portfolio-holder Intaj Khan said manufacturing was one of the key drivers of Wyndham’s economy, with 14 per cent of local workers employed in the sector.

“Having local manufacturers here in Wyndham benefits our local economy and wider community by bringing in jobs for our residents,” Cr Khan said.

Australian Made Campaign chief executive Ian Harrison said Wyndham was one of 17 councils nationally to support the campaign.

Mr Harrison said the Australian Made logo could play an important role in helping manufacturers drive sales and helping consumers identify genuine Australian products and produce.

“It gives our local manufacturers and farmers and processors a very effective device for promoting their products in the marketplace as Australian,” he said.

“Many businesses are yet to capitalise on the opportunity country-of-origin branding represents.

“Close links with local government are essential,” Mr Harrison said.
