Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly has urged the state government to deliver new bus routes in the developing estates of Tarneit and Truganina.
Ms Conolly last week officially launched a campaign to continue the state government’s delivery of bus services in the outer suburbs.
A statement issued by Ms Connolly said: “Newer estates in growth suburbs like Allura and Westbrook along Dohertys Road in Truganina, and The Grove and Habitat on Davis Road in Tarneit, require public transport to better access local services like Tarneit Station.
“The Andrews Labor Government is already delivering up to 500 extra parking spaces at Tarneit Station alongside the $1.8 billion Western Roads upgrade taking pressure off local roads and improving the commute to Melbourne by road and rail.”
The statement said that new bus routes would continue this work by reducing congestion, freeing up parking spaces and providing an accessible commute from Tarneit and Truganina.
“With community support and by working with the Minister for Public Transport – we can deliver accessible local transport services for residents where it’s needed,” Ms Connolly said.
Last year, the state government announced a number of upgrades to Wyndham’s existing bus network – such as the addition of services on a number of routes, including seven extra services on Route 167 in Tarneit.
Ms Connolly said that Victorian buses had been undergoing extra cleaning and sanitising during the COVID-19 pandemic, with handrails and grab-straps being wiped over frequently every day.
Ms Connolly said that commuters should also practice good hygiene when travelling; maximise the distance between themselves and passengers where possible; and avoid travelling if they felt unwell.
She said anyone who could work from home must continue to do so.
