Budget cash flows for Wyndham

Health and emergency services in Wyndham are the big winners in the 2022-23 state budget, with funding allocated towards the expansion of Werribee Mercy hospital and a new police station in Point Cook.

Announced in the state budget on Tuesday, May 3, Werribee Mercy Hospital will share in $236 million with Casey Hospital to double the size of its emergency department.

The government also announced $47 million for new police stations at Point Cook and South Melbourne.

Point Cook residents have been lobbying for a police station in their suburb for a number of years.

More than $357 million will also be provided to commission and open the Cherry Creek youth justice facility, with two neighbourhoods comprising of 56 beds expected to open in 2023.

The budget also includes funding to upgrade the Derrimut-Hopkins Road intersection in Tarneit and $6.1 million to commence planning for an intermodal terminal at Truganina to take trucks off local roads and keep freight on trains.

The government has set aside $236.6 million to acquire land for 15 future new schools in growth suburbs, including in Tarneit and Truganina.

Werribee Park Mansion will benefit from safety and building improvements as part of a $16.5 million investment in state heritage sites.
