Little River will play host to an event involving music, art and cycling this weekend.

Tarneit resident Damien Laing, an artist, curator and keen cyclist, has organised Little River Bands.

Laing said that members of Audax Australia Cycling Club, a non-profit organisation specialising in non-competitive long distance bicycle rides, will participate in a variety of rides on Saturday morning, with an afternoon of music and art displays also planned.

The rides, ranging from 50 kilometres to 200 kilometres in length, will travel through the You Yangs and Brisbane Ranges from 7am.

“I picked Little River because I’ve spent a lot of time riding in the area,” Laing said.

He said that while a lot of people go walking in the You Yangs and Brisbane Ranges areas, not many people cycle through the “really beautiful” natural scenery.

Laing – who has previously organised events in locations as diverse as Laverton, Brunswick and Germany – said Little River Bands would provide a way for people interested in either sport, music or art to meet and make friends.

“There will be a nice mixture of different groups of people who usually don’t mix,” he said.

He said some of the artists taking part in the event live in Wyndham and Geelong, including Hoppers Crossing photographer Imran Abul Kashem and Tarneit rapper Sunny Boi Singh.

Little River Bands will run from 7am-10pm on Saturday at the Little River Mechanics Hall. 8 Rothwell Road, Little River. Tickets: $5 to $15. Book at: www.trybooking.com/BPRRG
