To welcome back old members and welcome new attendees, Eat My Garden and The Werribee River Association will host a free community BBQ, with live music and kid’s activities.
Point Cook resident Miwako Okumura is the founder of Eat My Garden, and says this event is the first for the group since the COVID restrictions lifted.
“We started it several years ago and it started as a small event in the neighbourhood and we made a small garden in an open space with permission from council,” she said.
“The purpose of this is to provide a venue to meet, and to develop friendship and it also provides ideas for sustainable living and an opportunity to learn about gardening from each other.”
Ms Okumura says anyone can come and take some herbs or vegetables from the group’s garden, and encourages residents to attend the event.
“We are having BBQ options for non vegetarian, vegetarians, and vegan people,” she said.
“People can bring something to share and we will be setting up a sharing table there.
“I hope come and see what we’re doing so in the future we’d like to improve the space and hopefully add in more garden beds to share with the community.”
The BBQ will be held at the Eat My Garden Community Garden on Sunday, February 19, 1pm.
