A Point Cook couple are nursing sore legs after completing a whopping seven marathons in seven days … but it was all for a great cause.
Ben and Tammy Robinson, with 18 others across Australia, signed up for the Bravehearts 777 challenge in a bid to raise funds for Bravehearts Inc, a charity supporting child sexual assault victims through the education program Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure.
Funded by money the Robinsons have raised through previous runs, the program has been introduced into Wyndham schools in recent years.
Speaking to Star Weekly after returning to Point Cook, the Robinsons said it was a painful experience, but worthwhile.
“The whole reason we did it was to raise awareness of how prevalent child sex assault is,” Tammy said.
“I was assaulted as a child and didn’t find a voice to talk about it until I was in my 30s.
“We obviously want to prevent child sexual assault, but if it does happen we want to show that kids can talk about it sooner rather than later. I grew up with distorted perceptions of myself and the world because of what I’d gone through. If I’d got counselling, it would’ve been different.”
She said running the marathons was an emotional experience.
“I cried every day,” she said. “I cried because of the tough course, because I was emotional and knowing the reason why we were doing it. It’s definitely an emotional thing.”
The Robinsons, together with the other runners, raised $315,000 for Bravehearts Inc.
