Blooming nice volunteers

The work is never done for the team of 120 gardeners who care for the Victoria State Rose Garden.

Hoppers Crossing’s Anne Long has volunteered at the Victorian State Rose Garden for nine years.

“We have gardeners that have been volunteering for more than 25 years,” Ms Long said.

“We make sure the roses are fed, watered and mulched.

“All my life I grew up on a farm and farming and gardening go hand in hand.”

She said “many hands make light work” and volunteers were always needed.

Michelle Lewarton-Smith, Aditi Narayanan and Angelina Corso, of Flowers Across Melbourne, dropped in to the garden recently to give local volunteers some appreciation and pick up rose gardening tips.

Volunteers work at the Victoria State Garden on Wednesday and Saturdays.
