Wyndham ratepayers will have to fork out thousands of dollars to replace trees at a Point Cook park which were destroyed by vandals last month.
On February 24, vandals damaged trees in the Annandale Mews Park, which is located near The Strand and Willowgreen Way.
Wyndham director of city operations Stephen Thorpe said about 10 Queensland brush box trees were “damaged beyond repair”.
Mr Thorpe said the five-year-old trees appeared to have been purposely hit by a vehicle.
“We are extremely disappointed that these trees have been destroyed,” Mr Thorpe said.
“They belong to the community and it is not good enough that someone would think it is OK to undertake this reckless vandalism.”
Mr Thorpe said the trees had to be removed as a result of the damage, but would be replaced as part of the council’s street tree planting program, which is due to occur between April and June.
“It is estimated that replacing the trees will cost ratepayers up to $5000, which includes the removal of the damaged trees, their replacement and two years of maintenance,” Mr Thorpe said.
