A Wyndham man is looking for expressions of interest to start a Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) support group in Manor Lakes and surrounding areas.

Paul Bryant said he was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, a chronic disorder for which there is no cure, in September 2020.

He said the illness was characterised by widespread pain, stiffness, extreme fatigue and “Fibro Fog”, which causes difficulties with memory and concentration.

“It has had a debilitating impact on my quality of life, my ability to work, and to keep up with the demands of being a parent,” he said.

“When I was first diagnosed I thought the treatment options would be relatively straight forward but due to the complex and unpredictable nature of the condition it has been incredibly difficult getting good quality medical treatment.”

Mr Bryant said he searched for a local support group for people with the condition and was unable to find a face-to-face group in the west.

In response, Mr Bryant said he decided to establish a support group, which carers of people with Fibromyalgia and CFS will also be welcome to attend.

“I hope to raise awareness and to create a realistic and optimistic support group where people can connect with each other and share information, experiences, problems and solutions,” he said.

“At first we’d probably meet at a local cafe or the library once a month, but if there was enough level of interest we might meet more often.”
