Wyndham council is urging drivers to keep children safe as a new school year gets underway.

Among the rules the council wants drivers to observe and follow are no double parking, no stopping in no-standing zones and no parking on nature strips.

Drivers are also reminded that with school returning, so have the 40km/h zones during school times and that crossing supervisors’ safety should be considered.

When dropping off students, guardians should ensure they exit cars on the kerb side and students should use supervised school crossings when available to cross the road.

Wyndham mayor Mia Shaw said it was important that drivers observe speed zone changes and watch for directions at school crossings.

“Let’s make 2025 a great year for keeping safe on Wyndham’s roads, let’s drive to the speed limit and make sure we’re ready to stop when directed at school crossings,” Cr Shaw said.

“The start of the school year, while exciting, can also be a little stressful as traffic picks up and congestion occurs, let’s remember to be patient and courteous on the roads.

“Congratulations to our preppies who are starting school for the first time, our new year sevens who are commencing high school and our year 12s who are finishing their schooling this year.”
