Top chef Chris Wade is taking the taste of Australia to Africa.
Mr Wade flew out last week to begin a tour of countries including Mauritius, South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania, during which he and other experts will promote Aussie produce.
The tour is an initiative of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Australian food producers.
Mr Wade, who owns Glen Waverley restaurant Steak Ministry and has released a line #steakmaestro products, has previously worked with Marco Pierre White, Gordon Ramsay and Curtis Stone.
Mr Wade grew up in Wyndham, attending St James the Apostle Primary School in Hoppers Crossing and MacKillop Regional College in Werribee.
“In high school, I always used to invite kids on the school bus back to my place … I’d cook after school snacks for them,” he said.
“Some of my mates at MacKillop had family businesses in Werribee South, growing vegetables as market gardeners.
“I always have a little smile to myself when I see the familiar surnames on the side of my seasonal vegetable boxes – it’s good to know we’re still all together in a way.”
