An elderly woman was injured during an incident at her Hoppers Crossing home on Saturday night.
It is believed up to six teenagers, girls and boys, attended a Judkins Avenue address about 11.45pm.
Police said the group rang the doorbell to the house several times, but the resident, a 67-year-old woman, refused to let them in.
The woman went to lock a gate at the rear of the property and one of the offenders attempted to enter through the gate.
The offender kicked in the gate, which hit the woman in the head, as she fell over.
Star Weekly understands there were two children inside the home at the time, one of whom called triple-0.
Police believe the offenders also broke a window during the incident, but did not get inside the house.
The 67-year-old woman was taken to hospital.
