An artwork by Point Cook resident Anindita Banerjee has been selected to feature in an interstate exhibition.
Banerjee said her piece, titled FADE, reflected on how “raising the voice of the cultural other is continuous meditative process”.
FADE will be on show at the Gaffa Gallery in Sydney until February 26 as part of an exhibition called Chindia.
The exhibition is being presented by Carnival of the Bold, an artist’s movement aimed at bringing social issues into the mainstream.
It is part of Sydney’s Chinese New Year Festival. Chindia explores experiences of the Chinese and Indian communities in Australia, including cultural identity, politics, displacement and diaspora histories.
“It is exciting to know that my work is being recognised,” Banerjee said.
“More importantly, my art is making the impact I want it to make.”
She said FADE won the People’s Choice award in the Wyndham Art Prize last year.
“What I enjoyed about creating this piece is that it was a perfect analogy of the universal search for home,” she said.
“What I am trying to achieve with pieces like FADE is to start complex conversations around cultural identity and home.”
