Artist ready to draw a new career

By Dewi Sherry

At just 22, Jessica Jane is one of Wyndham’s up-and-coming artists.

The Tarneit resident and former MacKillop College student is eager to have her own gallery and sell her art to the world.

After completing a Bachelor of Illustration at Melbourne Polytechnic, Jessica was determined to put her art in shows and galleries.

So far she has displayed her pieces in shows including Off the Kerb in Collingwood and Brunswick Street Gallery in Fitzroy, among others.

Jessica creates illustrations, sculptures, brooches and has started designing prints and wrapping paper.

“All my shows went really well, I often sell a few pieces. It’s really good having my work at all different exhibitions,” Jessica said.

Jessica is a member of the Wyndham Art Collective.

“As an emerging artist living in the area, I like to be involved in community art.

“With the art collective I took part in art boot camp that they held in Point Cook. I spent two weekends there with other artists.”

Jessica has also been a winner of the Wyndham Mayoral Youth Award. The award recognises the diverse range of personal and community achievement of local young people.

In the future Jessica will be selling her art at the Esty Made Local Melbourne Market and has her eyes set on releasing a picture book with author Kym Lardner.
