Wyndham council has announced $918,000 in funding to install a new surface on the Arndell Park pitch in Truganina.

Wyndham’s sports development portfolio holder, Cr Peter Maynard, said the redeveloped pitch, which is located at Federation Boulevard Reserve, would also include a new and improved drainage system.

Cr Maynard said that construction of the new FIFA 1 Star Rating synthetic surface for the pitch would begin in coming weeks.

The existing pitch has been unavailable for some time, due to drainage issues and safety concerns.

“The replacement surface will breathe new life into the field, which was widely used by the community when not being hired out by the many soccer clubs in Wyndham,” Cr Maynard said.

“The upgrading of this asset will significantly improve the recreation and social facilities available to the Truganina community at Arndell Park, once community sport resumes.”

Works on the pitch are to be expected to be completed early next year.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas also announced last week that the state government would provide $60,000 in funding to upgrade facilities at Warringa Reserve, Hoppers Crossing.

Mr Pallas said the funding would allow Wyndham council to install a new automatic irrigation system at the site, and deliver infrastructure suitable to accommodate players with a disability.

“We’re getting on with the job of creating better facilities for our next generation, so they can emulate their sporting heroes like the Australian women’s cricket team who recently won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final on home soil,” Mr Pallas said.
