Preliminary works have begun on the $11.5 million extension to Armstrong Road that will connect Greens and Black Forest roads in Wyndham Vale.
Wyndham mayor and transport portfolio holder Henry Barlow said the council was undertaking drainage works as part of the arterial road connection, which is one of the big-ticket items in its 2017-18 budget.
Construction of the road link is expected to be complete by mid-2018.
Cr Barlow said the Armstrong Road extension would remove thousands of vehicles from local Wyndham Vale roads, including Haines Drive, Ribblesdale Avenue and Greens Road.
“It will also decrease travel times to the Wyndham Vale railway station,” he said.
“Council will be able to determine project commencement dates upon all contractual arrangements being finalised.”
Meanwhile, Wyndham council has been working with developers Lendlease in a bid to fast-track construction of the Armstrong-Ison Road link from Black Forest Road to the Princes Freeway.
The link will give Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes residents direct access to the Princes Freeway without having to pass through Werribee’s CBD.
According to Get Wyndham Moving e-newsletter, the council, Lendlease and VicRoads are each expected to fund parts of the link with a view to having it built as a single project.
“Further design work is still required and financial arrangements to be finalised,” the e-newsletter said.
“However, council is optimistic that this link will be built and finished in two to three years.”
