A malfunctioning pump has been blamed for the shutdown of AquaPulse’s two waterslides – and it could be another week before the slides are re-opened to the public.
The waterslides were first closed two weeks ago on November 13 for maintenance works after an internal valve stopped working correctly, which resulted in coolant leaking out of the internal chamber and allowing water in.
As a result the pump began to overheat, which was noticed by employees and the electronic switchboard.
It was announced the following day that the slides would remain closed until further notice due to the pump malfunction.
Bruce Mackay from Western Leisure Services, the organisation that runs AquaPulse, said the full extent of the internal damage was still unknown a fortnight on.
“Early investigations have so far only found a faulty valve,” Mr Mackay said.
“More time is required to fully investigate the remainder of the pump to ensure no further damaged has been caused.
“There is no precise timeframe on these works however we remain hopeful that the investigations will be completed in under one week.
“Pending advice on the internal damage assessment, we anticipate the works will be covered under warranty.”
Mr Mackay said Western Leisure Services was offering patrons alternative options, such as inflatables, during peak trading periods.
He said members had not received discounts because of the waterslides being shut down.
AquaPulse, formerly Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre, opened in June 2015 following a $54.4 million facelift.
