RSPCA Victoria is appealing for information about an severely emaciated and injured dog, who was admitted to a Werribee vet clinic last month.
The male Pointer crossbreed, thought be be aged below two years old, was brought into the U-Vet Werribee Animal Hospital on Monday 23 July.
In a statement, the RSPCA said the dog appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma to his head, and that he also had many wounds on his body, including pressure sores, which suggested that he had been immobilised by weakness for some time.
Sadly, due to the extent of the dog’s injuries and his emaciation, vets at the clinic decided to humanely euthanise him in order to end his suffering.
RSPCA Victoria Inspectorate team leader, Karen Collier, said the dog “was terrified, starving and appeared to have experienced extensive trauma” before he was dropped off at the Werribee vet clinic.
“We are pleading to the public for information about this dog or anyone who might havebeen responsible for his suffering,” she said.
The dog was allegedly brought into the U-Vet Werribee Animal Hospital by a man perceived to be Maori in appearance, who was driving a white van.
The man told staff that he found the dog in Point Cook. But attempts to contact the man have been unsuccessful, as the name and contact details he left at the clinic appear to be inaccurate.
“This man may have further information that could assist us with our investigation,” Ms Collier said.
“We are appealing to him to get in contact with us immediately.”
