App to offer transport on demand

Point Cook Action Group committee member Senthill Sundaram is hoping to pilot an on-demand public transport app in Wyndham.

Mr Sundaram said the app, which is still in its “initial concept” stage, would involve buses running during peak hours in areas not serviced by other public transport and on “flexi routes” based on public demand during off-peak times.

Mr Sundaram said his proposal would involve interested people signing up for the app after paying a registration fee.

“The members could book the bus services using the app, by selecting the preferred hop-on location and hop-off locations from the designated locations configured in the app,” he said.

Mr Sundaram said he had submitted the WYNBUS app proposal to Pick My Project, a state government initiative to give out $30 million in funding for community projects.

The winning applications will be selected by members of the public, through a voting process to be held this month.

Mr Sundaram said that if the WYNBUS plan received enough votes, he hoped to get funding to lease a 12-seater bus for one year. Details: pickmyproject.vic.gov.au/
