Point Cook residents are logging on and topping the online shopping charts.
Last week, Australia Post released a report which revealed Point Cook was Australia’s number one online buying location in 2016, based on the amount of internet shopping parcels sent to households in the suburb.
There was a 13 per cent growth in the number of parcels sent to Point Cook across the 12 month period, compared to the national average growth of 11.5 per cent.
In addition, Hoppers Crossing placed sixth on the list of Australia’s online shopping hubs, behind Cranbourne in fifth place.
The Australia Post report revealed that foreign sales accounted for just over 40 per cent of all online purchases in Australia last year, compared to 25 per cent five years ago.
Australia Post’s ecommerce general manager Ben Franzi said it was clear the nation’s love affair with online shopping “continues to bloom”.
Between January and June last year, Point Cook ranked second nationally for online purchases in the categories of health and beauty, department and variety stores and media, such as music and books.
As well, Point Cook topped the nation for internet sales of homewares and appliances.
Point Cook came fourth nationally, and first in Victoria, for buying fashion online.
Grovedale, near Geelong, and Point Cook also topped the state when it came to buying specialty food and liquor on the net.
