Air wing catches alleged offender

The Police Air Wing has arrested a man for theft of a car in Wyndham Vale this afternoon.

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives first observed a stolen black Peugeot SUV on Synnot Street in Werribee about 12.45pm.

They attempted to intercept the car however it drove away at high speed.

The car was later spotted and followed by the Air Wing in Wyndham Vale.

It is believed the offender drove the car down McGrath Road onto a dirt track before crashing into a power pole.

The man ran from the car through several paddocks before being corralled and arrested by the Air Wing about 1pm.

A 24-year-old Werribee man is in custody and is assisting police with their enquiries.
