Wyndham residents Syazwani Saifudin and Briana Ngo have been selected to join the state government’s Victorian Youth Congress (VYC) of 2022.

A total of 21 Victorians aged between 12 and 25 have been picked to join the group, out of 584 youths who applied.

The VYC members work with the state government and its agencies to ensure the voices of young Victorians are heard on different issues.

Ms Ngo, who is aged 20 and is studying biomedicine at university, served her first term on the VYC during 2021.

“I love meeting new people and learn new things,” she said.

“The Victorian Youth Congress has allowed me to achieve both of these during my term.

“I just want to say that VYC is a great opportunity for young people to get a taste of what it’s like to work with the government and how things are run by the government.

“I highly recommend everyone to apply for the next VYC term if they are interested.”

Hoppers Crossing Secondary College student and 2021 United Nations Youth Australia’s Wellbeings Program delegate, Syazwani Saifudin, is serving her first term in the VYC.

“I am really looking forward to meeting other young people of diverse backgrounds and learning from them and about them,” the 15-year-old said.

“I am particularly passionate about educational equity and think that reducing educational inequality in schools is crucial to Australia’s future.

“As part of the Congress, I hope to ensure that the implementation of the new Victorian Youth Strategy is inclusive of all young people and fair.”
