Three generations of the one family are celebrating their special connection to Derrimut Heath Primary School in Hoppers Crossing.
The school, which is part of Baden Powell College, opened the gates of its Sycamore Street campus in 1992.
Back then, the school had 240 pupils, including a grade 1 girl named Bek.
Bek – who is now Mrs Young – grew up and became a teacher at the school.
Her own daughter, five-year-old Matilda, started prep at Derrimut Heath this year.
But the family connection does not end there – Mrs Young’s parents, Nick and Karen Oliver, were both heavily involved in the school.
Mr Oliver spent three years as a school maintenance man and bus driver, while Mrs Oliver was a member of the school’s first-ever Parents and Friends Committee.
She also joined a committee that designed the school uniform and went on to become Derrimut Heath’s first public relations officer.
Now that her grand-daughter has started at the school, Mrs Oliver has re-joined the Parents and Friends Committee and volunteers in the school library.
Mrs Oliver and Mrs Young said they liked the community atmosphere at the school.
“It becomes your second family,” Mrs Young said.
“I’m really looking forward to Matilda taking part in school concerts – they are some of my greatest memories here.”
Mrs Young has taught at the school for almost a decade and is currently teaching grades 5 and 6.
As a former vice-captain of the school, she has her badge and grade 6 bomber jacket on display in her classroom.
