The flavours of the world were showcased at Alamanda K-9 College last week when the school’s grade 3 pupils hosted their very own food festival.
The families of each pupil were tasked with bringing in a plate of traditional food from their culture to share with everyone else, while pupils gave a presentation about living in a culturally diverse society.
Grade 3 teacher Suzi Koneski said the food festival gave pupils the chance to embrace their heritage and show appreciation of other cultures.
Ms Koneski said there were more than 30 different nationalities represented in the school’s grade 3 classes alone.
“It is important for us to understand different cultures because this will aid in better understanding of different celebrations and therefore we will be able to show respect to others,” Ms Koneski said.
“We noticed that celebrations have one thing in common, bringing families and people together.
“Even though we might be different we are all similar in many ways.”
