When Hoppers Crossing resident Paul Daley fell off his off push bike in December, he punctured a lung, damaged a few ribs, and had to be rushed to the Werribee Mercy Emergency Department.

Mr Daley said the care he received from the staff was “just fantastic” and as a symbol of his gratitude, he revisited the hospital on Friday, January 13 to deliver a special gift.

“As a token of my appreciation for the doctors and nurses at the emergency department I [presented] them with three photos that I’ve taken and enlarged,” he said.

“The emergency department is just phenomenal, we’re so fortunate.”

The were taken in August of last year, as a storm cloud rolled over the Point Lonsdale Pier and Mr Daley hopes the images can serve as a reminder that trying times don’t last, and help release some tension during stressful situations.

Mr Daley said he felt his experience compelled him to bring awareness to the unfair backlash that is often issued.

“It really opened my eyes and it just makes my blood boil when I hear negative complaints about it because when I was there it took three doctors and four nurses [to help me] and so people complain ‘oh i was there [at the emergency department] for ages’ they don’t know about the life threatening dangers going on behind the scenes,” he said.

Werribee Mercy Hospital Emergency Department acting director Jamie Roberts said the hospital is proud of the service they provide to the Wyndham community, and in the last month alone, 4000 patients had received care at the emergency department.

“Every patient who presents to the Werribee Mercy Hospital Emergency Department is important to us, and we are glad to have played a part in getting Paul back to his family and doing what he loves,” Mr Roberts said.

“We are extremely grateful to Paul for his positive feedback and for donating his beautiful photos, which we will proudly display.”
