A passion for caravans

Peter May could be described as a connoisseur of caravans.

Mr May has been the managing director of May West Caravans for 27 years.

He and his wife started the business in Werribee, before moving to Hoppers Crossing 12 years ago.

“I’m passionate about the industry as a whole,” he said “I’m very passionate about my own business and how it’s grown from humble beginnings and don’t accept complacency. We’re always growing, training and challenging ourselves and our staff.”

His dedication to the caravan industry has been recognised through several accolades.

In 2015, the Caravan Industry Association of Victoria presented Mr May with the Charlie Tebb Service to Industry Award.

His caravan business had also received a number of awards, including the manufacturing (small) gong at the 2012 Wyndham Business Awards.

Mr May said he was planning to enter the business in the retail section of this year’s awards in appreciation of his employees.

“You’re only as good as the people you have got on board and our staff help us grow the business and their commitment is great,” he said.

Star Weekly is the media partner for the 2017 Wyndham Business Awards. Entries and nominations are being accepted until June 16. Go to wyndham.vic.gov.au/businessawards for more information and to enter.
