Jordanne Tan knows the importance of good spelling.
The grade 4 Good News Lutheran College pupil has qualified for the Spellmasters junior grand final later this year after placing third during round two of the competition, which was held earlier this month.
Jordanne correctly spelled a slew of words before getting stuck on ‘asphalt’.
It’s the second time the nine-year-old Hoppers Crossing resident has competed in the statewide event, but the first time she has qualified for the grand final.
She will go up against 14 other children in the junior final.
“I’m not used to speaking in public, so it was a bit scary,” Jordanne said.
Mum Serena said she entered Jordanne and her elder daughter, Bethany, in the competition to build their confidence, and because the pair both love reading.
