Music, dancing and self-defence classes are just some of the activities that will star in Wyndham’s annual Youth Festival this Friday.

The festival will be part of a family-friendly open night at the Manor Lakes Community Learning Centre (formerly the Wyndham Vale Community Learning Centre) to celebrate the completion of construction at the facility.

Wyndham family friendly city portfolio holder Mia Shaw said the upgrades at the centre were part of a $9.9 million investment, including $1.93 million from the state government, in the Manor Lakes, Point Cook and Tarneit Community Learning Centres.

Cr Shaw said the Friday event would include craft activities for children, face-painting, henna, workshops and demonstrations from dance schools, self-defence classes and storytime sessions for kids and adults.

“Come down after school and after work to enjoy the free entertainment, grab dinner and enjoy a relaxed Friday night in your neighbourhood,” Cr Shaw said.

“There’ll also be amusement rides including the cha cha, dunk tank drop slide and jumping castle, a selfie station, a live music stage and delicious food available to purchase from food trucks and Saffron Kitchen.”

She said a new service would be launched at the centre that would give residents the chance to meet staff from the council’s town planning, building approvals and economic development teams every Tuesday from 8am to noon.

The Youth Festival and open night will be a drug, alcohol and smoke-free event. It will be held on Friday from 3-8pm at the Manor Lakes Community Learning Centre, 86 Manor Lakes Boulevard, Manor Lakes.
