Wyndham police have charged a 36-year-old Altona Meadows man in relation to a crime spree involving stolen vehicles and petrol drive-offs across the western suburbs.
The man faces 55 charges resulting from police investigations into a series of incidents involving stolen vehicles being used in petrol thefts that began on May 3.
Hobsons Bay Criminal Investigation Unit detectives were also involved in the investigation after responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle at Federation Close in Altona Meadows on June 1.
Police said three stolen vehicles were found at the address. A man fled in one of the cars.
On June 10, police arrested and later charged a man at a Hopper Crossing address following a tip-off.
Charges include conduct endangering life, 10 thefts of motor vehicles, four counts of theft from motor vehicle, two counts of petrol thefts and resisting arrest.
Police allege some of the cars were stolen from hire companies at Melbourne Airport.
The man has been remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.
A male and female in their 30s have also been arrested and charged with theft of and from a motor vehicle.
They have been bailed to appear in court in September.
