Improvements for Princes Highway-Hoppers Lane and Princes Highway-Sneydes Road
Two of Wyndham’s most notorious intersections will be upgraded as part of a $13 million roadworks package.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas last week announced the start of improvements to the Princes Highway-Hoppers Lane and Princes Highway-Sneydes Road intersections.
The Princes Highway and Hoppers Lane intersection will receive new traffic lights and be widened to accommodate additional lanes, with footpaths around the intersection to be linked with the pedestrian crossing to allow easier access to the nearby Werribee Mercy Hospital, Suzanne Cory High School, Victoria University and Hoppers Crossing railway station.
Both intersections will receive new street lighting to improve visibility and safety.
Mr Pallas said East Werribee road improvements projects also included widening Sneydes Road and the construction of the Sneydes Road diamond interchange, which would provide another connection to Princes Freeway.
The interchange will be built in two stages, with the Melbourne-bound lanes to be constructed first. Work will then start on the Geelong-bound lanes before removal of the Sneydes Road bridge over the freeway.
All of the works are due to be completed by late next year.
“These upgrades will make the intersections safer for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists and support local traffic into the future,” Mr Pallas said.
“The East West Employment Precinct will be huge for jobs and growth, so we need to upgrade the local roads now.”
In 2013, the former Coalition government announced $72 million in funding for East Werribee, including $9.6 million to realign the Hoppers Lane-Princes Highway intersection and $16.9 million to upgrade Sneydes Road, on top of $40 million for the diamond interchange.
