They capture our awkward phases, embarrassing haircuts and clothes, but as we grow older we tend to look back at our school photos with a sense of nostalgia.
With memories in mind, one former Werribee High School (now Werribee Secondary College) student has embarked on an ambitious project to track down the students from the school’s first 32 years.
Colin Foot arrived from England with his family in 1954 and two years later was among the first intake at Werribee High, which at that stage was called Werribee Elementary and integrated with the primary school in Deutgam Street.
He remembers the first headmaster of the high school, George Morris, as a man with a “booming voice”. One of his first teachers was ‘Miss Bevan’, and a Hungarian teacher coached the volleyball team through three undefeated years.
Now, Mr Foot, 71, has developed a website where he has gathered together more than 350 school and class photos from 1956 to 1988 and hopes to finally put names to faces.
“They never used to put names on school photos, so it’s been a difficult task,” he said.
