New schools will be built in Point Cook and Tarneit if Labor wins the state election.
Opposition leader Daniel Andrews announced the schools on Wednesday morning as part of a $87 million plan to buy land and construct schools in eight growth areas and three inner-city suburbs.
Under the plan, a primary school will be built at Davis Creek in Tarneit’s west while Point Cook will get a second senior secondary school.
The Point Cook Action Group has been lobbying for a second years 10-12 school for the suburb, fearing the existing Point Cook Senior Secondary College will be unable to cope with future demand.
The group recently launched a petition asking the state government to set aside land for a new senior school.
In January, Wyndham council warned that a Davis Creek primary school would need to be built by 2016 to cope with the area’s rapid population growth.
Mr Andrews said Labor was investing in schools in areas where classrooms are crowded and choices are limited.
“We’ll build new schools in some of the highest growing areas of our state, because children need a quality local education and parents deserve certainty,” he said.
“A Labor government will be there for every Victorian parent and every Victorian child to help them get through the most important years of their lives.”
