The arrival at Werribee Open Range Zoo of two new lions from Denmark has proved a roaring success.
After being cleared by quarantine, Niribi and Nilo ventured out of their dens and started exploring their new surroundings last week.
The zoo’s general manager of life sciences, Russel Traher, said that after a gradual introduction process, the lionesses would join male lion Johari to form a new pride.
Mr Traher said the introduction process would continue in coming months as keepers gradually increased the level of visual and fence-to-fence contact between the lionesses and Johari.
