Bravehearts: Point Cook couple powered by trauma

A Point Cook couple will run seven marathons across six states and the ACT in seven days to help improve the safety of children.

Ben and Tammy Robinson will run the marathons in June and July next year to raise money for the charity Bravehearts, which helps children and their families affected by sexual assault.

This will be the second time Mr Robinson has run seven marathons in seven days after doing the same fund-raiser last year.

His wife cycled the marathons last year, but plans to run all seven next time.

Mr Robinson says the couple will be drawing on their personal experiences to help them through the gruelling seven days as his wife was sexually assaulted as a child and spent years fighting for justice.

“Our strong desire to make a difference stems form personal experience,” he says.

“Running seven marathons in six states [and the ACT] in seven days is a tough and painful experience but nothing compared to the pain my wife had to endure.

“I’m so proud of Tammy and her courage to protect future generations from a crime that impacted her entire life.”

Mrs Robinson says she is determined to raise awareness of the work Bravehearts does to help educate, empower and protect children.

“I know too well the devastating effects child sexual assault can have on a person,” she says.

“I want to help Bravehearts reduce the incidence of this horrible crime.”
