A Werribee man has suffered head injuries and had his wallet and mobile phone stolen in an early-morning attack.
Police said the man, 18, and his girlfriend, 17, were walking through Galvin Park Reserve about 1.30am on Monday when they noticed two men on bicycles on the opposite side of the reserve’s football field.
As the couple walked through the reserve towards Shaws Road, the men started yelling at them, telling them to ‘‘wait there’’.
The man and his girlfriend told police they started walking faster as the men on the bikes closed in on them, demanding the man empty his pockets.
The couple started to run and in the panic were separated.
Police said the two men chased after the man, wrestling him to the ground and punching him to the head several times.
They emptied his pockets, stealing his wallet and mobile phone, before fleeing towards Parklands Grove.
The man, who received abrasions and swelling to his face, made his way to a friend’s house to call police.
Officers searched the reserve but were unable to locate the alleged offenders.
The men were described as being of Caucasian or Southern European appearance and aged in their 20s.
One of them was wearing a white hoody, while the other wore a black hoody. Both men are about 170 centimetres and of medium build and were riding mountain bikes.
