A woman died in an early-morning car crash in Laverton North on Friday.
Police are investigating the crash that happened about 4.40am.
Senior Constable Adam West said it was believed the driver of a Ford Falcon that was travelling north along Fitzgerald Road lost control and the car left the road before hitting a tree.
“A female passenger, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene,” Senior Constable West said.
“The driver of the car, believed to be a man in his 20s, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital by ambulance crews.”
Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Fitzgerald Road is currently closed and police are urging drivers to find an alternate route.
The crash takes Victoria’s road toll to 128 compared with 115 at the same time last year.
