UPDATE: A Hoppers Crossing man was arrested by police about 10.40am on Friday in relation to two attempted armed robberies at Werribee Plaza earlier this week.
The 24-year-old is in custody and is assisting police with their inquiries.
Police allege that a man entered the Myer store at Werribee Plaza about 4.30pm on Wednesday, pulling a bandanna up over his face and producing a small hand gun from his pocket.
Police said the man then approached a female shop attendant at the cosmetics counter, telling her that he would shoot her if she didn’t open the till.
They said that as the woman was opening the till, the man stepped behind her and held a pair of scissors at her back. He again threatened her and demanded that she open the till.
However, he ran from the store empty-handed when he saw a co-worker attempting to ring triple-0.
Police said that the man then met an accomplice in a small park area in Barber Drive, Hoppers Crossing.
The men are alleged to have then assaulted a Hoppers Crossing man, 19, demanding that he hand over money, before running off empty-handed.
