Wyndham was largely ignored in this year’s state budget, with the city missing out on any funding for roads, dilapidated schools and a new justice precinct.
The only new project in the municipality to be included in the budget is a prep-year 9 school to be built at Point Cook south-east.
The school is one of 11 in growth areas that will be built under a public-private partnership. They will share in more than $190 million in funding.
But the government has not revealed how much will be spent at Point Cook.
Earlier this year, Wyndham council warned the government that it needed to fund at least two new schools this year.
It also called for the budget to include money for urgent upgrades to Werribee Secondary College, The Grange College and Werribee Primary School. All three schools missed out on funding, despite the budget including money to upgrade 70 schools.
Commuters will be forced to put up with Wyndham’s congested arterial roads for at least another year, after the municipality was over looked for funding for road upgrades.
Opposition treasurer and Tarneit MP Tim Pallas accused the government of “snubbing” Wyndham.
“This government has left our students in unfinished school buildings and our commuters in gridlock,” he said.
“With no new funding commitments across Werribee, Tarneit and Wyndham Vale, to say the Napthine Government has snubbed Wyndham – the fastest growing municipality in the state – is a gross understatement.”
