A young girl is in hospital after a hit-and-run on a suburban street in Werribee.
The 11-year-old was riding her bike along Mary Avenue in Werribee when she was hit by a car about 6pm, police said.
She was knocked to the ground and the car drove away.
The car, a white hatchback with roof racks, was seen speeding along College Road before it turned onto Mary Avenue and the driver lost control.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the child had head and leg pain and was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Sergeant Shannon Thompson described the incident as “horrifying” and called for the driver to hand themselves in.
“We have a number of witnesses to the incident and I would suggest to the driver that they attend a police station as soon as possible,” he said.
“We have recovered a number of items from the scene including a side mirror and indicator which we believe has come from the offending vehicle.”
