Point Cook next year will celebrate its role as the home of military aviation when it marks the 100th anniversary of Australia’s first military flight.
The Centenary of Military Aviation Air Show will be held at Royal Australian Air Force Base Williams on March 1-2, 100 years after Lieutenant Eric Harrison took to the skies above Point Cook in a Bristol Boxkite.
Launching the show last week, RAAF deputy chief Air Vice-Marshal Gavin Davies said the event would feature static and flying displays by historic and contemporary aircraft, including a replica of Lieutenant Harrison’s plane.
The replica, built at the RAAF’s Point Cook museum, recently completed test flights under the control of Air Vice-Marshal Mark Skidmore. Tickets for the air show are available from Ticketmaster.
