Name change for Springs school

A WYNDHAM councillor will have to change the name of a school in
Caroline Springs following a County Court hearing.

Intaj Khan is opening
a school on the former Mowbray College site next year and planned to
call it West Melbourne Grammar School.

But Truganina’s Westbourne Grammar School applied to the County
Court to force Cr Khan to change the name, saying it would create
confusion. Cr Khan said he agreed to Westbourne’s request because he did
not want to get involved in a court case.

He said he was committed to opening a non-religious school with a
multicultural slant. Westbourne Grammar received costs of $2000 plus the
incidental costs for the summons to court. The new school is likely to be called Melbourne Lakeside Grammar School.
