Principal of Thomas Carr College, Craig Holmes, poses what he believes is an important question to ask: “What does membership of a particular school community entail?”
In answer to that, Mr Holmes says: “To be a member of the Thomas Carr community is to be valued for who you are and to be challenged to embrace the vibrant learning opportunities we have to offer you.
“To become truly global citizens, our students have the advantage of a robust learning program including the critical lens of religious education which develops an informed and courageous world view, encompassing stewardship, and ethical decision-making combined with compassion.
“Wonderful opportunities exist for our students to exercise leadership and to connect with our local community and enjoy broader association with partner schools and organisations internationally.”
In response to the ever-changing global community, the college offers a broad range of experiences to complement academic studies. Co-curricular activities enhance a student’s ability, skill level and interests, with each activity involving staff members who nurture students to obtain the best outcomes from this immersion.
Mr Holmes says students and staff are members of a caring community built on the same Catholic values as have underpinned the college’s 22-year history.
“We have a proud tradition of transitioning students from primary school through a wonderful learning experience, to create students who leave us after this six-year partnership as well-rounded individuals.
“Student-centred learning is enhanced via a highly developed middle-years program, abundant technology for all students and state-of-the-art new buildings and refurbishments.
“We aspire to be a great school that meets the needs of our students via a broad curriculum and program base, catering for a great array of student destinations post the secondary years.
“Through the variety of experiences on offer, both in the classroom and beyond the college gates, students emerge from their Thomas Carr College educational journey with the confidence and courage to pursue their individual pathways and embrace the challenges of the future as global citizens.
“Our college really is a vibrant learning community where students will shine.”
