Ronan Keating said her voice was “incredible with so much power”.
Jessie J said she “wanted to be a fan”.
The Madden brothers described her voice as “unique and wild with a tonne of potential”.
And Delta Goodrem said she wanted to turn around from the moment she started singing.
The judges of Channel Nine’s The Voice weren’t talking about an international superstar – they were talking about 19-year-old Werribee singer Elle Murphy.
The former Mackillop College student, who studies voice at the Australian Institute of Music, was blown away when three out of four judges turned around for her in her blind audition as she sang INXS’s The Devil Inside.
Leading up to her appearance, Elle says she was nervous.
“I was preparing myself for none of the judges turning around,” she told Star Weekly.
“I got up on stage and pretended I was in the auditorium at school. I was lost in my performance, then half way through I saw Delta standing up, and I realised where I was and freaked out.”
She soldiered on, delivering a high note and impressing all judges, but selected Goodrem as her coach.
“I’d grown up loving Delta, watching her videos and listening to her music,” she said. “She’s a spiritual being and I can connect with her, so I went with what I initially wanted.”
Elle’s journey as a singer began at the age of six when she followed in the footsteps of her singing, dancing and acting brother.
“I was hopeless with acting and dancing, but singing stuck with me,” she said.
She cites Joss Stone, Adele and Cloves as artists who inspire her.
