Casey wows at Wyndham Rising Star contest

The Wyndham Rising Star competition is up and running, and Sean A’Hearn was there to see and hear three singer battle it out in the second round.

After a hotly contested first round of auditions, 10 singers have progressed through to the second round.

The intensity level was lifted as the first to make it through each performed four songs.

Musical theatre and cabaret enthusiast Joanna also took to the stage as the first wildcard performance of the night.

Each contestant had a unique point of difference, but it was clear that all four loved singing and being on stage.

Monique, who has knock‐your‐socks‐off powerhouse vocals in the mould of Adele and Kelly Clarkson, was a crowd favourite, while Casey, singing original tracks, showed off a raw, funk‐bluesy vibe.

Amber, meanwhile, is a wholesome country girl through to the core, and her sincere nature drew the audience in.

Guest judge and upcoming artist in his own right,  was on hand to perform a set as an inspiration to the others and to show the level of artistry that’s required as a professional in the music industry.

Live votes were counted and it was a landslide: Casey charmed her way to 22 votes, Monique finished with four votes and Amber had three.

The Universal School of Music, in partnership with Wyndham council and Hotel 520, is giving emerging young artists and singers the chance to showcase their talents and compete for prizes and a professional music scholarship valued at $25,000.

Voting is now open.
