Hollywood trip keeps acting dream alive

A Werribee actor’s brush with Hollywood is inspiring her to return to make it onto the silver screen.

The director of Screen Actors Werribee, Robyn Duse, returned from Los Angeles this week having received an insight into the US film industry.

“The trip was both business and personal,” she said. “I learnt a range of skills that I will now implement in workshops here in Werribee.

“Acting is the kind of thing you’re always learning … so I’m excited to share my knowledge with my students.”

Duse said she took part in a series of general auditions with casting agents, receiving some “amazing feedback”.

“It was a great experience to be in front of casting agents from shows like Modern Family,” she said. “I’ve always had a love of comedy, but it’s always been my weakest genre. Drama has always been my strong point.

“After travelling to Los Angeles, I think it’s something I can really get involved in.”

She said the final obstacle standing in her way of a career abroad was obtaining a green card.

“I’m in the process of getting an attorney to organise my paperwork,” she said. “My dream is to be on screen in America.”

Duse, who has appeared on shows such as Neighbours, The Secret Life of Us and Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS, teaches acting at 91 Watton Street, Werribee.
