Werribee will be transported back to 1960s Baltimore when a local theatre group takes on the musical Hairspray.
A cast and crew of young Wyndham residents will take to the stage on December 3 to deliver their annual St Andrews Amateur Theatre Company production at Mackillop College, Werribee.
Michael Wilson, 19, will take the job of director for the first time.
“I’ve been involved in the theatre company about three years now,” he told Star Weekly.
“I started doing the small jobs then moved into lighting, found myself in the cast and now I’m directing Hairspray.
“I guess you could say I started at the bottom and made my way to the top.”
Mr Wilson says the theatre company fills a void that existed in the community.
“There isn’t much opportunity to do theatre in Wyndham, but this group offers that opportunity at a really high standard.
“The theatre company is really a targeted youth opportunity. It’s great to have such a young production team full of energy, excitement and potential.”
Mr Wilson says the show is guaranteed to impress lovers of theatre.
“I think you can expect the most amazing cast. The set is really impressive, the costumes are great. It’s one of those shows that’s just really lively and colourful.
“It’s a fun musical that leaves you smiling at the end.”
The St Andrews company, a not-for-profit organisation, is calling on the community to support the show through sponsorship.
