The last week of school holidays packed on the fun courtesy of the annual Kids Day Out Race Day at Werribee Racing Club on Monday.

Club general manager Glenn Scott said the attendance of about 750 was 50 per cent up on last year.

He said 450 showbags packed with gifts and goods were distributed to children, while only 95 had been handed out last year.

Mr Scott said the higher numbers could be explained by Monday being part of Australia Day’s “unofficial long weekend”.

“It seems people took advantage and made the most of a great day at the races with family.”

Youngsters got into the fun of sack races, egg and spoon and three-legged races, ball sports, dancing, face painting, art and craft workshops, and a tug of war.

“Kids Day Out is a program that runs across Country Racing Victoria clubs, and it’s just a great family day,” Mr Scott said.

“Compared to Cup day, when it’s extremely busy and just not as relaxing, it’s great to have a day like this on the racing calendar.”

The club’s next meeting is Community Clubs Race Day on February 19. Book on 9741 1800.
