Werribee Shire Council is concerned at Sunshine City Council’s suggestions regarding relocation of Newmarket Saleyards in the Laverton North area. However, a recent report on the matter by Sunshine City Council recommends that the proposed site be shifted into Werribee Shire.

A Werribee councillor has dismissed out of hand an article in last week’s Banner which claimed the councillor’s Laverton North companies were given a “second chance” to comply with health regulations. The article claimed that a second 90-day notice period was imposed by the council on two food packaging companies directed by Cr Stuart Southwick.

Werribee Park is to get a $5 million hotel and conference centre. The Minister for Conservation and Land Management, Ms Marie Tehan, will call for private sector investment when she launches the project, Vision for Werribee Park tomorrow. The development is expected to involve revamping the St Joseph’s wing, built by the Roman Catholic Church as a seminary between 1925 and 1928.

The order, applied by the Australian Federal Police and granted by the Federal Magistrates Court in Canberra on Sunday, is the first granted under Australia’s new anti-terrorism legislation.
