Werribee Shire’s new $2.6 million civic centre complex was officially opened on Friday by Sir Henry Winneke, Governor of Victoria. The weather which had previously been wet and windy for two weeks, cleared away during the morning to allow the opening of the place in glorious sunshine. The opening was preceded by Air Force personnel from Laverton and Point Cook, accompanied by the RAAF Central Band, in a spectacular march.

According to Cordis Incorporated’s Dr Vittivetpillai Ketharanathan, the company’s US-based parent firm plans to sell off its Australian operation unless the shares can be sold.

According to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics figures, farmers in Werribee grow 60 per cent of Victoria’s vegetables and 22 per cent of Australia’s produce each year.
